Newly crowned Australian Carrera Cup champion Harri Jones will join Lechner Racing this weekend for Round 1 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East in Bahrain.
Just two days after winning the 2022 Carrera Cup title at the Gold Coast 500, the 23-year-old Sunshine Coast-based driver flew to the Middle East. There he completed two days of official pre-season testing with Lechner Racing, the 2022 Supercup teams' champion.
"I have the opportunity of a lifetime to test and race with Lechner Racing," Jones said.
He described the team as very professional with impressive credentials, said he had learned a great deal during testing, and was excited to show what he could do in the pink BWT car.
Team principal Robert Lechner originally invited Jones for the two test days only. But Jones impressed the team and adapted quickly, and the whole team wanted to see him race in Round 1.
"I first met Harri at the final round of the Mobil 1 Supercup at Monza," Lechner said.
He described Jones as a very impressive young driver and said the team was looking forward to seeing him race the BWT Junior car in Bahrain.
After Bahrain, Jones heads to Europe for the Porsche Motorsport Junior Shootout, starting on 22 November.
Jones said his time in Bahrain was ideal preparation for the Shootout. He has had to adapt his driving style to Formula 1-style circuits and is looking forward to putting what he has learned into practice.
Round 1 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East runs from 10 to 12 November. Follow Harri's social channels for updates from the weekend.
