Harri Jones has become only the second driver in history to win multiple Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championships, adding the 2024 crown to his 2022 title.
Jones was dominant from the opening round. He won seven races in a row across the Sydney, Darwin and Melbourne events, and finished the season with six round wins, 12 race wins, 18 podiums and multiple lap records.
"It's been my best season yet," Jones said.
He said winning the first race of the year gave him a big lift in confidence, and the team knew early on that its approach would carry it through the season.
Jones joined Porsche Centre Melbourne Motorsport at the start of 2024, and the team set the championship as its goal from the outset.
"There is no question we had just one goal in mind, and this is exactly what drew me to the team," Jones said, praising the team's effort and the intensity it kept up all year.
Team manager Matt Cook signed Jones in early 2024 as part of a restructure of the Melbourne-based team.
"2024 marked a defining year for Porsche Centre Melbourne, as we aggressively redefined our approach to motorsport," Cook said. He described signing Jones as a key part of that change, as the team set ambitious goals and lifted its level.
"I couldn't be prouder of Harri and everything he has accomplished this year," Cook said, also pointing to Jones's commitment, focus, humility and passion for racing.
Jones's path to two titles has been a quick one. He started racing at 15, won the Australian Formula 3 Championship in 2018 and the Porsche Sprint Challenge in 2019. He stepped up to Carrera Cup and won the title for the first time in 2022, earning an invitation to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2023.
The Supercup is the top one-make Porsche series in the world, racing alongside Formula 1 at venues including Monaco, Spa and Monza. Jones refined his skills there before returning to Carrera Cup.
He is now looking further ahead. As well as Carrera Cup, Jones wants a seat in the Repco Supercars Championship, the pinnacle of Australian motorsport for the past 30 years.
"As we head into 2025, there are some big things on the horizon," he said, adding that his passion keeps him motivated and he will keep working until he reaches his goals.
