Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup driver and reigning Porsche Carrera Cup Australia champion Harri Jones will return to Australia full-time in 2024. His aim is to build his new team, Jones Motorsport, into "one of the greats of Porsche Motorsport Australia."
The 24-year-old Queenslander will contest his fourth season in Australia's premier one-make category. This time he will also work as team manager and coach alongside his racing.
Jones Motorsport will contest the full 2024 Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia Championship, with plans to expand into the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge.
Jones said he had options to stay in Europe, but the chance to come home and grow the team while still racing was too good to pass up. He said he saw "exciting opportunities to innovate and develop a team that can help drivers in all aspects of their career."
His passion for motorsport goes beyond driving. He brings championship wins across the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid, years as a driver coach and engineer, and the lessons of a season in Europe.
In 2023 Jones raced at the top level of Porsche one-make competition worldwide. He drove for BWT Lechner Racing, the most successful team in Porsche Supercup history, and for Scherer Sport PHX in Carrera Cup Germany. He raced on the support bill at major Formula 1, WEC and DTM events.
Jones called it "a great year," better than he could have imagined. Monaco and Spa were highlights. At the final Supercup round at Monza he finished fourth outright and first in the Rookie class, missing the Rookie Championship by one point.
Across two full-time championships and a handful of one-off appearances, he contested 20 race weekends. He said a European program is intense and that he came out of it feeling "battle-hardened."
The season also deepened his love for the Porsche platform. Jones calls Carrera Cup Australia his favourite category in the world and says racing at Australia's best circuits is a dream come true.
Jones Motorsport debuted at the Bathurst 1000 with Jones at the wheel. In one of the most competitive Carrera Cup fields ever assembled, the team took pole position and three second-place finishes.
Jones said he had heard about the team's hard work while he was overseas, and seeing it pay off at Bathurst was "just amazing." He added that the team was only getting started.
Fans can see Jones and the team in action at the Gold Coast 500 from 27 to 29 October.
