Porsche's Christophorus magazine has profiled Harri Jones in a feature titled "Chasing Harri", calling him the benchmark driver in Australia's Porsche motorsport scene and tracing a path to two Carrera Cup titles that has been anything but typical.

The story opens at a high point. Jones had just become only the second driver to win multiple Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championships, and was being hailed as the best Porsche racer in the country. His partner, Emily, had announced they were expecting their first child, and Jones Motorsport had two cars entered in the 2025 Porsche Sprint Challenge.

Then, around six weeks before the first practice session of the new season, came a phone call. Porsche Centre Melbourne Motorsport, his title-winning team, was closing its doors, and his plans to defend the title were suddenly in doubt.

Formative years

Jones grew up in a racing family on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. As a child he raced downhill mountain bikes until the injuries added up, and he switched to cars at 15.

Without the usual karting background, he went through Formula Ford and into Australian Formula 3, the "Wings and Slicks" category, winning the national championship in 2018 at 19. He then chose Porsche racing over an international open-wheel career.

Porsche success

Jones joined McElrea Racing and debuted in the 2019 Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia. He finished on the podium in his first 15 consecutive races, a series record, winning three, and took the title in his debut season.

In the pandemic-shortened 2021 Carrera Cup season he finished third, winning his first race at Mount Panorama in the series decider. In 2022 he won his first Carrera Cup title, building a big lead over the first three rounds and holding off a strong challenge from Aaron Love.

That title opened the door to Europe in 2023, racing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Carrera Cup Germany. He showed he could compete internationally, but then home called.

Homecoming

For 2024 Jones signed with Porsche Centre Melbourne for Carrera Cup Australia, while he and his family set up their own team for Sprint Challenge and he pursued a full-time Supercars drive. The season was one of the most dominant in Carrera Cup history, and at the Adelaide finale he joined the short list of multiple Carrera Cup champions.

When the team closed, Jones Motorsport expanded quickly to take on a full-year title defence.

2025

Despite the rushed preparation, the bid for a third title began in Sydney with pole position and wins in all three races. Christophorus also noted Jones would drive for Supercars squad Team 18 in the endurance races at the end of the year.
